The primary goal of seismic data processing is the generation of a high quality seismic dataset. The processor manipulates the data by increasing the signal to noise ratio using coherent and incoherent noise suppressing algorithms, while mitigating any artifacts through appropriate parameter selection. 

The seismic data interpreter expects a dataset that is “ready to interpret”, devoid of any unexpected errors, i.e., misplaced or erroneous trace headers or missing data.
